Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living (SIL)

High quality supported accommodation designed to help you live independently and achieve a meaningful quality of life.

Supported independent living

We provide Supported Independent Living (SIL) across Victoria, offering flexible support options tailored to your individual needs, from drop in assistance with daily tasks to full-time 24/7 support.

Our homes are safe, inclusive, and designed to promote independence, skill development, and meaningful community participation.

Through the NDIS framework, we empower you to build life skills, strengthen confidence, and achieve your goals in a supportive and respectful environment.

Purpose Care ‘s Supported Independent Living services are designed around the needs of three distinct participant groups:

  • People with psychosocial disability support needs
  • People with dual disability support needs (mental health and intellectual disability, autism spectrum or acquired brain injury) and eligible for Specialist Disability Accommodation
  • People looking for a model where family members are closely involved

Each resident will have their individual program of support, depending on what they need to live the life they want.

Our qualified staff are skilled at working in partnership with residents in shared housing and multi-unit complexes and the important people in their lives, both one-to-one and in shared settings.

We help build personal skills and confidence so you can live independently, while fostering a positive sense of community at the residence.

Supported Independent Living residents with NDIS packages that fund assistance with daily living typically choose help with:

  • decision making, daily planning and budgeting
  • building skills for shopping and cooking for healthy eating
  • written communication and filling in forms
  • learning to maintain a household with tasks such as laundry and cleaning
  • developing and maintaining connections with family and friends
  • and for some; getting ready for the day and other personal care tasks.

Every resident has their own tailored program of support. And residents get the benefits of the available group activities and the supportive community they help build.

Tenancy Rights

For accommodation services where a tenancy agreement applies, participants are protected under the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 (Vic).

For tenancy-related questions or disputes, participants can contact Consumer Affairs Victoria:

Please Note: Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding covers support services and does not include the cost of rent, groceries, or other day to day living expenses.

Short and Medium Term Accommodation

Purpose Care also provides Short Term Accommodation (STA) and Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) for participants with NDIS funding who require temporary supported housing. These supports may assist participants who are transitioning between living arrangements or waiting for their permanent home to become available.

Individualised Living Options (ILO)

Purpose Care can also support participants who have NDIS funding for Individualised Living Options (ILO). ILO focuses on creating flexible and personalised living arrangements that reflect each participant’s needs, goals, and preferences. Supports may involve a combination of paid supports and natural supports, including assistance from family, friends, and the broader community.
